roast bake

Serves 18

Ingredients

1.5 tbsp baking powder
1 cup butter
9 cup flour
1.16 oz instant yeast
1.5 tsp salt
2.88 tbsp sugar

Directions

Combine sifted flour, salt, sugar, yeast and baking powder. (If wholewheat flour is available, you can replace half the normal flour with that for a healthier meal). Mash the butter into the flour with the fingers or pastry blender until the resulting mixture feels like breadcrumbs. Add approx 2 cups of warm water, slightly warmer than lukewarm, but not hot enough to burn your hand, because you will kill the little yeast people and they will be sad and so will we because our bread will be rock hard...

Please, be wary of the amount of water you are adding. Constantly mix/knead the flour as you add water, ensuring that the flour at the bottom of the bowl is included. The dough should not be too tough, but definitly not soft or wet.

Let rise for about 30 mins in warm place. Knead on floured surface, and split into six equally sized rounds. Press rounds into flat circles about .75 inches thick and 8-10 inches in diameter Let rise for 10 mins. Be careful not to let them to stick to the counter.

Foil and grease 3 baking sheets. Place 2 rounds on each and bake for 20-25 mins or until golder brown and a hollow sound in made when loaf is tapped with knife handle or something...

Slice into wedges and serve hot.
