Melt the butter. Whisk together sugar, eggs, butter, flour, backing powder, vanilla, salt and milk to make a smooth batter.
Peel apples, quarter, and remove the kernel. Cut the quarters into thin slices and mix with the liquid batter. Put in a greased 30cm pan. Bake in a pre-heated 375 degrees F oven about 45 minutes to golden yellow. Then, cover for 30 minutes with wax paper or lightly covered with aluminum foil. Serve lukewarm.
